Let's Judge the Book by Its Cover! Week One

Hi guys, welcome to Let's Judge the Book by Its Cover. This is not a weekly meme, but more like a super flexible meme. You can post when ever you want; no commitment required. I am pretty sure some awesome people out there in the amazing blogosphere probably came up with something similar but these LJdBbIC (yes, the short hand is still long) posts basically will be me and my sister judging the covers of recent cover releases. We might be harsh sometimes depending on the covers but we just want to get our thoughts out there. Censorship, absolutely zero. This time it is only me; my sister bailed and wants to sleep more. So here goes nothing?

First up!

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestseller The Selection.

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

Will it attract my attention in a book store?
Yes it will. The colour pops and I mean it has a pretty dress on it so yeah, I gaze will fall on it and I will pick it up.
Pros?
The detail, the colour, the reflection in the mirror, and yes, the dress.
Cons?
I am unsure about the model's facial expression. Umm...she looked dazed or zone out. Also her arm position is a bit weird, like a dead limb.
Colour Scheme?
Liked I mentioned, great. I loved the red, orange, pink tones.
Font?
Fancy but still legible, great.
Unique Features?
I love how the crown in the first and this cover. It just give these cover this little something.
Others?
The sequel cover carried the flow of the first book cover so I know immediately that this book is the sequel to The Selection. Nicely down. As the next book series cover I will talk about, that did not happen.
Remember #1?
Next!
Will it attract my attention in a book store?
Sadly, no. This just looked too romance novel liked. Everything is so harsh and crisped  that no bending seemed to been done. I mean look at the water, the feathers(?), the models, the lighthouse. Everything looked like it was photoshoped by an amateur. I expected more since the second cover was FANTASTIC.
Pros?
The water looks cool? And I like how the light from the lighthouse cast dimensions in the models. Great attention to detail there. I like that random feather right above Amanda's name. :3
Cons?
Romance novel feel? Doesn't look like it fits the genre? Not well blended?
Colour Scheme?
This one has a much darker colour skim compared to the other two (see below). Perhaps this have something to do with the contain of the book but since I don't know, I am going to guess that?
Font?
Pretty :3
Unique Features?
The two models? Actually quite attention catching if you are into the type of stuff like that.
Others?
I wouldn't have known that the book was in the series since the two previous covers looked a lot different.

Remember #1?
And #2?

Of the two series, SELECTION series just won out by a bit.

Now your turn! :) What do you think? And what did you guys think of these covers in general? What covers should we discuss next?

  1. First, LOVE The Elite cover. Just read The Selection, can't wait for the new release! I agree with you on Tidal. It's sexy, but it doesn't fit the other two more subdued covers at all. Way too adult.

  2. I just love The Elite cover. Is so beautiful!!! And it's magical somehow. The second... well... I think it would have looked better if they keep the same shade of blue as the first two covers. I like the other elements.
Oh, and I want to ask if I can take over this meme on my blog. I love the idea! Thank you.

  3. I loved the cover of the Selection, but the Elite cover is even more beautiful. The Tidal cover is just bad. Seriously, it in no way looks like the other 2 covers, the model looks nothing like the model in the previous cover. They both look too old. The tat is awful. It is just not good for me at all. I wouldn't pick it up. But the Elite cover! 100% beautiful!

    1. Yay, thank you for stopping by and sharing your opinion! :D Glad we feel the same. I am really hoping that Tidal can redeem itself with the content of the book.

  4. I like the covers for the books of the *The Selection* series. They are simple and nice. I love the covers of the 1st 2 *Watersong* books, especially *Wake*'s, but *Tidal* seems like it is from a different series altogether, like one of those thick romance books that older ladies read that I would never give a second glance or thought to.
BTW, when you say "colour skim", do you mean "colour scheme"?

    1. Exactly! I hope Tidal's cover have something to do with the book?...because it is just not so well done.

...*hides* lol yes! Thank you for letting me know! :D I'll just go hide in my corner now... :)
