Guest Post: For Ever by CJ Valles

For Ever starts now
Sixteen-year-old Wren Sullivan doesn?t want to know what other people are thinking about her?because most of the time it sucks. Too bad since that?s what happens every time she looks into someone?s eyes.

When she moves to Portland, Oregon, after her parents? divorce, Wren?s just hoping to get through the rest of her junior year unscathed. Instead, before the end of her second day in school, she wakes up in the hospital after her very own freaky demonic-possession incident. Wren can?t remember much. But soon she finds out that her ?episode? happened right after she locked eyes with the one classmate who happens to have gone missing.

Wren starts digging through people?s heads for the truth about him, and finds ? nothing. Godlike hotness? Yep. But nobody knows who Ever Casey really is. Even weirder, they don?t seem to care that he just disappeared. So, when he randomly shows up again in her first period class, she?s determined to get some answers. He may be perfect on the outside, but with one look into his eyes, Wren discovers his mind is also perfect ? perfectly empty.

Or is there something he doesn?t want her to see there that will put her and anyone near her in danger?

When For Ever ends, Never begins.
Never, the second book in The Ever Series, is coming soon.
For Ever as a Fairy Tale

In a lot of ways, I think that For Ever is an inverted fairy tale. At least, that’s the way I see it. You’ve got all the pieces, but they’re all kind of upside down. And I think the sequel, Never, really takes things and shakes them up even more.

The Heroine
In For Ever, the heroine role would go to Wren Sullivan, the MC, but she doesn’t sing or talk to woodland creatures. And she isn’t saccharin sweet, but neither is she this badass dystopian war goddess.
She’s a normal girl with the exception of being able to read minds, which is kind of a pain since people aren’t always thinking the greatest things about you.

Prince Charming
The Prince Charming role would go to Ever Casey, only he’s not really charming or unequivocally good during most of the book. Instead, he’s distant and indifferent except when Wren finds herself in trouble. Even later in the story, when more is revealed about him, I think he remains a very mysterious, conflicted character. Is he good? Is he bad? Maybe there’s no good answer there.

The Love Story
Have you ever seen somebody from across the room and just had that jolt? The “I can’t even feel my hands right now” feeling? I think that’s Wren’s experience when she first sees Ever—only she can’t read his mind, which means for most of the story she doesn’t know if she’s just entertaining this one-sided fascination with him—or if he is really bad news, and she should avoid him at all costs.

The Villain
There are a lot of villains in For Ever. Though, for most of the story, the main villain is a sort of a question mark. Is it Ever? Is it Wren’s bad luck? Is it that jerk from her Chemistry class? Things start to become clear toward the very end, which is really the launching point for the events of the sequel. I think Never (coming out Valentine’s Day 2013) is going to really surprise a lot of people who have read For Ever.

Happily Ever After
Well, no spoilers here, but let’s just say the ending doesn’t have the typical fairy tale ending, which I think has caught a lot of people off guard. Honestly, it wasn’t the way I thought it would end when I first started writing the book! I’m really looking forward to releasing the sequel, because it answers a lot of questions and opens up a whole new can of worms.

Thanks to Ashley for hosting For Ever on FireStarBooks!
