Faeries vs humans, who will win in the battle for the faerie land of Fei?
Book Description:
Ariela is a mutant faerie, born without wings. No wings means she has no magic. The Book of Lore states a silver-winged faerie will be born to save the faerie land of Fei but no silver--winged faerie has been born.  There is only Ariela. And she has no magic, or does she?
Kathleen also has 2 free short stories, THE BEGINNING and SPACE JUNKET, on scribd.

 1. If you could work with any author who would it be?
JK Rowling, hands down. She is my role model and it would be a thrill to work with her.
2. Who is your favourite author and is you writing style similar to theirs?
Anne McCaffery is one of my favourites. I had a reader comment that my writing style was similar to hers and I will always remember that!
3. What's your favorite part of a book?
The beginning. If I can get hooked into the story right away, I tend to keep reading. I try and do the same with my stories. Readers need to be invested in your characters otherwise they'll put your book down, and you don't want that to happen.
4. When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?
Yes, I look up meanings in an online dictionary.  Sometimes names just come to me, sometimes I look them up. It all depends. On what? I have no idea.
5. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Yes, the message is never give up, no matter what others think. Stand up for what you believe in and embrace your differences. Ariela is a mutant faerie, she has no wings, some thought she should have been destroyed at birth because of her deformity but she finds a way to use her deformity that not only empowers her but others.
6. What book are you reading now?
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare.
7. What are your current projects?
I just polished a MG zombie book that is humorous in parts and serious in others.

I just submitted the second Mel Thompson, P.I. series cozy mystery to my publisher, Gypsy Shadow Publishing. The first one is IF IT'S MONDAY, IT MUST BE MURDER. This one is called IF IT'S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TROUBLE!

The second in the Lore of Fei series, called WAR OF FEI is being published by Muse It Up Publishing and will be out in Feb. 2013.

I have several books/short stories I put up on Kindle recently:
EIGYR-a YA historical fiction about the early life of the mother of King Arthur.
MOON PRINCESS-a YA urban fantasy about a girl who discovers her deceased mother is not who she seemed to be. It is inspired by the Greek myth of Artemis, the moon goddess.
ORPHEUS ASCENDING-a novella that is a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and their tragic love. LITTLE RED-a mashup of Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood
LITTLE BOY BLUE-a YA short story about a girl who has a brother in a coma.
8. What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing it to life?
The challenges were world building, making up a different language and keeping all the characters straight. I am usually a pantser, meaning I write as I go but for this book, and for my mysteries, I had to plot it all out first. I actually wrote this book during NaNoWriMo, an international writing competition during the month of November. NaNo writers have to write a 50,000 novel in 30 days. You don't actually win anything except the satisfaction of doing it. It's a great motivator. I wrote LORE OF FEI two years ago, polished it up and got a publisher for it. I wrote the second book, WAR OF FEI during this past NaNoWriMo and I am planning on writing the third one this coming November. The working title is VEIL OF FEI. It's the last in the series. I think. LOL.

Thanks for hosting me!

Excerpt:
“I am not a human girl, Duri. I am a faerie, like you. I was born without wings.” His eyes widened, but he still did not speak. “The Old Ones sent me to find a way to stop the humans. There can be no war on Fei. I need to know what the humans plan and when they will raid Fei again. You can help save Fei from extinction, Duri. Will you help me and be loyal to me and to Fei?”
He nodded. It was a slight nod, but it was a nod.
“Thank you Duri.” I sensed relief from him. “Sunvi, of the Old Ones has been captured and is ensconced in the food area. His wings have been clipped, too. He will help us restore Fei to the land it once was.” I moved away from Duri toward the dragons. Tashie spotted me and flew over. She gave me a look, and I laughed at her. I sensed hunger from her. I reached in my pouch and pulled a sweet out. She took it and gobbled it down. I scratched under her chin, feeling the happiness flowing from her into me. I looked over to where Duri had stood, but he had gone back to the Lair. I hoped I could trust him. Faeries were much harder to read than humans.

 About the Author:
I am an urban faerie born without wings but I fly on the wings of imagination tethered to this mortal coil. Moonlight sustains me and sunlight devours me. Stars swim in my eyes and my soul bleeds on a daily basis. I am a writer.
