Review&Giveaway: Wake by Amanda Hocking

Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

Another 3rd person POV, score!

I really liked how this book was an easy read. I was completely relax reading this (I am not saying there weren't any action or suspense, I am saying that it wasn't mind boggling hard to understand). In fact there was tons of action and suspense!

Gemma seemed like any other teen girl. She was bubbly and fun. She really reminded me of Winry.
WOW two Winry in the same week? (Check out my review of The Light of Asteria review).

I loved Harper. I definitely think she was my favourite character within the book. She was so responsible but not the type that reek of perfection. She worried about Gemma even though she was not older by much. I really felt for her.

Natalie, their mother, was one of the best characters. She was just so present and vivid as a person. She just drew you in and I couldn't help but love her. And Brian, he was awesome too. He made me laugh out loud as well. Oh this reminds me! The situation with the parents in this book was different than most YA. The parents didn't die, but they weren't perfect (let's leave it like that).

And oh Alex, how I loved him. He was a total geek! He was adorable, good-looking with hints of awkwardness. I just couldn't help myself from laughing sometimes, and this was legit laugh out loud what I am talking about. He was the type of person that didn't fit into just one category (bad boy, funny guy etc). He was a mix of everything wonderful. But I'm more a Daniel girl. ;) Just think about what I said about Alex and times that by, I don't know, 10? or maybe 20?

Daniel, what a dude! He was just...ugh, I can't explain it. Funny, strong, and protective. He was the perfect guy, without being too perfect that he becomes unreal. Oh I wish I can explain better but I just can't put it in words. You know that feeling when something is just so perfect that you can't pin down why it is so perfect and then you just end up feeling this: PCKWFDKMRJSKDBWKSJDWKSJ? Well that's what I'm feeling. I think one of the reasons why I didn't find him unreal was that he was not described as a hot guy with muscles under his tight shirt and with strong arms and hair that blow in the sea breeze. I mean he was definitely gorgeous but Amanda didn't mention that every second sentence. And I think a lot of the other characters are like that in this book. Amanda didn't forcefully "promote" how great her characters were. She allowed the characters to form by themselves, and in doing so, the characters became so lovable and enjoyable to read. Oh yeah! And I just want to squeeze it in there that Harper and Daniel...OTP!

Gosh this book! I have sooooo much feels for this book! XOKWRBKSNFRKKCKDWK! I am definitely having a moment here. Oh god. This book! It was the same thing with Fullmetal Alchemist. The same exact feeling!

Penn, Lexi, and Thea totally reminded me of Azula, Ty-Lee, and Mai, especially when they camped around the fire. Ember island much? ;)

This book was a pleasure to read. I can't wait for the next instalments!
