Review ♥ Giveaway: Little Fish: A Memoir from a Different Kind of Year by Ramsey Beyer

 Told through real-life journals, collages, lists, and drawings, this coming-of-age story illustrates the transformation of an 18-year-old girl from a small-town teenager into an independent city-dwelling college student. Written in an autobiographical style with beautiful artwork, Little Fish shows the challenges of being a young person facing the world on her own for the very first time and the unease—as well as excitement—that comes along with that challenge.

Ramsey Beyer grew up on a farm in Paw Paw, Michigan, before escaping to city life in Baltimore, where she earned a BFA in experimental animation. She currently lives in Philadelphia and Little Fish is her first (traditionally) published book.

For me, I never had the transition Ramsey had. No scary moving away from my parents, no experience with dorms, new cities etc. But I still related to this book. Ramsey's background was completely different from me. Growing up in a small town, having 4 sibling were things I didn't experience. But reading her journey through her Freshman year just made me realize no matter what your background is, we will experience similar things, for example being nervous about moving away, getting confused, trying to be more social etc.

One of the things that I related most to! XD

Sadly because I didn't move to a new town for school, I didn't experience a lot of things Ramsey went through. I couldn't compare my experience to her but it was still fun to see the things that happened to her. I didn't really made any new friends compared to Ramsey >w< heehee. I didn't experience exploring new things like her. So it was nice to experience all that with her.

I did wished that the book could've been more specific on certain events, or emotions. What did Ramsey and her friends exactly did during the school year? More detail on her visit back home? More details on how she felt about her experiences? More information on her new friends? Ramsey should've wrote more stuff they did together in detail for us to see her opinions on her friends. I shouldn't just know Olivia as the vegan and gay-rights activist. I want to know her more, see Olivia through the eyes of Ramsey. What I loved most in this book was Ramsey's comics. It depicted the most of the situations, events, she was in. They were fun to read, but sadly a little too short! I wish she drew more comics and wrote less lists. Ahah, when Ramsey first introduced herself and said that she really liked lists....oh boy, I should've believed her. Ramsey REALLY loved making lists. XD I am thinking maybe having more comics in this book and maybe turning them into short animated clips would be a fabulous idea! 

This book was so different! Every page was so beautiful. Just look at the photo below that I took. Every page was like those pictures! So much ink went into printing this book! The details, the layout, the design! Sooo brilliant! This is why I never truly felt bored when I was reading this. You definitely can finish this book in 2 hours or less. Overall I think this was a cute, fun, fast read. How to better it? Write more comics and less lists.
